If you smell gas
Do this now
These are Gas Networks Ireland’s steps, in their order:
- Make sure your gas appliances are turned off, and that none has been left on without a flame.
- Open the windows and doors.
- If the smell doesn’t go, turn off the gas at the meter.
- Ring the gas emergency line on 1800 20 50 50. It’s free and open day and night.
Don’t
- Don’t smoke, vape or use a naked flame.
- Don’t switch anything electrical on or off, and don’t unplug anything.
- Don’t use your phone near the smell. Ring from outside, or from a neighbour’s house.
Mains gas or LPG?
The 1800 20 50 50 line is for mains natural gas. If your gas comes from a bottle or a tank outside (LPG), ring your LPG supplier’s emergency number. It’s usually printed on the tank or on your bill.
After the emergency
Once the gas is safe, Scott can find the leak and fix it. He’s a registered gas installer, and he’ll check the whole system before the gas goes back on.
